On 4/26/2021 at approximately 9:31pm Henry County Dispatch received a 911 call stating there was a Structure Fire at 565 Singletary Road and there was a bed ridden female still inside the structure. Henry County Dispatched emergency units to include Abbeville Fire/Rescue, Abbeville Police and multiple surrounding Fire Departments.
Officer Harrison arrived on scene at approximately 9:33pm and entered the residence making contact with an elderly female in her bedroom, Harrison then picked up the female and began to carry her out of the structure. At approximately 9:34 Investigator Behringer arrived on scene and entered the structure making contact with Officer Harrison in what was now a totally smoke filled house. The 2 officers were able to safely get the occupant out of the home with only minor smoke inhalation. Haleburg Rescue transported the patient to Flowers Hospital non-emergency for observation.
I would like to personally commend both of my officers for going above and beyond the call of their duties. There is no doubt the quick response time and the courage they shown was instrumental in helping to save this precious life.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by Abbeville Fire Department.
