In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world gather in Washington, DC during police week to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

National Police Officers Memorial Day, May 15th, is a day set aside to mourn and honor those law enforcement officers who died or were killed in the line of duty protecting their communities.

Pictured below are a few of our Iowa survivors that are in D.C. for police week as they were getting ready to head to the Memorial Service today. This is a little less than 1/3 of the survivors that came to Police Week from Iowa.
