Legislative Call-to-Action
EMS Action Alert on Essential Services Bill
IEMSA Priorities Moving Through The Legisaltive Process!
Two issues IEMSA is supporting are getting attention in the Iowa House of Representatives right now! Please find your State Representative (we may ask you to contact your Senator later!) and email and let him/her know that you support making EMS an essential service with funding to make that designation possible. Acknowledge in your email that staffing is the other side of the coin that will continue to be a challenge but that these pieces of legislation set the foundation we need to begin addressing the challenges of providing excellent EMS coverage statewide. Also, please feel free to mention that you support HF 144, increasing the individual tax credit for volunteer fire, EMS, and reserve officers from $100 to $200.
HF 562 by Ways and Means Chairperson Lee Hein and championed by Rep. Bobby Kaufmann is our essential services bill. Although there have been some changes made to address some concerns by interest groups and the Senate, we are in favor of the bill and appreciate that it still accomplishes the task of making local funding sources available as an essential service. This is a big deal and a HUGE part of funding EMS in rural Iowa! Passed Committee unanimously and eligible for floor debate.
HF 144 by Rep. Bossman increases the individual tax credits for volunteer fire, EMS, and reserve peace officers from $100 to $200. Passed Committee unanimously and eligible for floor debate.
Please support Iowa EMS across our state by contacting your legislators today!
